R60,00
Floating hearts (Nymphoides thunbergiana) is an indigenous aquatic plant very similar to a true waterlily. However it is not from the true waterlily family and differs primarily in that it gets small yellow (2cm wide) flowers on each of its leaves. It is an exceptionally vigorous plant that will do well in any pond

Nymphoides thunbergiana – Floating hearts
Description:
Nymphoides thunbergiana, sometimes called the yellow floating-heart, is an aquatic perennial native to southern Africa. It has small, floating, heart-shaped and it produces clusters of bright yellow, fringed flowers that rise just above the water surface in warm months. This plant spreads across the water by runners, forming attractive mats that provide cover for fish and habitat for aquatic life.
The plant will be shipped bare root (no soil, no pot, see second picture) in a sealed packet. It will need to be potted up upon arrival and placed into water
How to grow it:
-
Position: Prefers full sun to partial shade in still or slow-moving freshwater (ponds, dams, water gardens).
-
Planting: Place the plant in shallow water (15–60 cm deep). It can be grown in aquatic baskets filled with loamy soil, topped with gravel to prevent soil floating away.
-
Growth: It spreads by stolons (creeping stems) that root at the nodes, gradually forming a mat. Trim excess growth to prevent overcrowding.
-
Water quality: Thrives in nutrient-rich water but avoid highly polluted conditions.
-
Maintenance: Remove dying leaves and flowers to keep water clean. It may need thinning to prevent it from covering the entire water surface.
